i wanted to another post about a bob dylan song with regards to mass media but i think i should go a little lighter. my posts seem to make less and less sense or irrationality.
at times as always, incomprehensible.
i only want you guys to think about 1 thing.
how many of you are that sheep.
no one bothers about what he thinks. and even the one sheep that looks at it can’t do anything.
so often at times, there will be that deviant and there might be someone who will notice. he or she may or may not agree but the point being that they don’t really have a choice.
context. society. conformities. rules. black and whites. perceptions.
groupthink simplies applies to a smaller scale but so many a times it is actually prevalent in the bigger picture.
even in class. someone might have a differing opinion that might be extreme or might not be what people approve of. now some of you at this point of time are probably thinking. shawn. are you talking about yourself.
fair enough. i consider myself a dissenter. not for the sake of rebelling.
simply because i think everyone assumes things. we don’t form our judgements based on our judgements because our judgements, perceptions, views are influenced by so many factors. i hate that. it eliminates individuality.
i will agree that to survive in a social context, you require to blend in. many a times at the expense of a great of things. and i can’t disagree with you all that perhaps like me are viewed in a rather negative light.
i only like to think of it in this sense -
the sheep says we don’t have to just be sheep.
he didn’t say we don’t have to be sheep. there’s a key difference.
he is exploring the various possibilities. to enrich himself. some of you might say self-denial. not accepting his true nature. but that only applies to the 2nd statement which is ‘we don’t have to be sheep’.
my point in this post is that. hold on what seperates you from everyone else even though at times you may be inclined to give it up because of peer pressure. your individuality is what makes you special and unique in your own way.
build on it instead of letting everyone else build on it for you.
at the end of the day you’re answering to yourself. not to them.
in the meantime i’ll stick to being that sheep. whether you want to listen to me is up to you. =)
Sometimes when you become THAT sheep and you do make a wrong move, you will find that no one will be there to help break your fall.
Which sucks at first, but then you learn from it and grow stronger. I guess that is why people stick with the herd because there’s safety in numbers and that they simply cant handle the pain of making mistakes.
Only in Singapore can you get caned in school and get shoved under the VP’s office table for radical behaviour which made you a better man, Mr DKNY..

Somehow. being that sheeps takes a lot of courage, that why many people choose not to be one.
Being different, is something not-so-common, maybe in Singapore. Maybe due to the fact that, when you are different, people will shun you.
There are times when I do disagree with what people say, do or think. But, I simply convince myself not to express it. Yes, I am just being not-so-courageous, or maybe, due to the fact that I dont like attention.
Anyway, i agree the sentence on “build on it instead of letting everyone else build on it for you. At the end of the day you’re answering to yourself. not to them.”
Yes, I think we should always remeber that we are the one living our own lives.

Society needs sheep like that. People who stand up to ‘stir shit’ or provide alternative feedbacks/ideas/possibilities. I will be damn depressed today if some joker (from centuries back) didn’t go on and say ‘ Hey I’m going to keep this chicken alive and eat the next thing that comes out its ass.’ or more commonly known, Columbus decided (despite strong protests from his men – afraid to fall off the FLAT earth) to sail on. Dude went on to land on Florida and died a wealthy renowned yahoo.
So there. Carry on being that sheep. Your words and actions may shine and spread to all regions of the known/unknown universe out of all these conformity. Meanwhile, I’ll support in in the shadows. Woof. woof.
i have to agree with you shawn. black sheep of the society are few and far between. im glad i found someone similar. lol.
we as black sheep. are the misunderstood lot. people think we’re being ‘extras’ for speaking up about whatever’s on our mind, whether it be a controversial topic, or a radical/extreme thought. but heck, who cares about them. we never once forced them to subscribe to our school of thought, did we.
and yes i have to agree about the part where you answer only to yourself at the end of the day. sounds super individualistic. but eh. it’s the truth. as long as you can answer to yourself at the end of the day.
i live by that motto.
well, being the odd one out in a group, can be quite sad at times as nobody will listen to you. Your opinions will be remain silent no matter how good it is…But i like being in the odd one in the group, i like to be a person with my own thinking rather then following the trends. =)
well i guess existance of black sheeps provide us with the awareness of an alternative, another possibility.
it takes a lot of courage to be that black sheep. i wouldnt have the courage to disobey my shephard

existance of black sheeps makes us realise that not everything is white and tame. your shepard is not the nicest fellow on earth and you can choose not to smell like one another in the same flock.
i’m still living my life on the safe side right now as a white sheep. but cheers to black sheeps! i might end up to be the run away sheep that bo-peep lost.

i seem to get the impression that you guys are relying on the black sheep for the role of the devil’s advocate here.
that that is the second opinion that no one dares to raise.
of course attention in the black sheep’s context is never positive when you blend into the crowd. so i guess if one day when all the sheep are black, the white will be the one that stands out and turns things around.
maybe it’s just that there are rules in this world that dictate the logos of life. such as why sheep are white and the odd ones out are black sheep. maybe in the end there’s really no form of denial that the black sheep might never be the one in the right after all.
well. this scenario kinda originated in heaven. Satan kinda said, ”Wait wait listen to me!!.. We don’t just have to be sheep!” (Lord God being the Shepard and all). Thank God (literally), for letting this earth to be a much interesting place to dwell and die.
